How Old Does My Child Need to Be to Use an Umbrella Stroller

So after traveling around for a couple weeks with your new borne, you’ve probably quickly figured out that it can be quite a pain getting around town.  No matter what kind of early stroller you get it’s going to be large, bulky and very difficult to get around with even with a car.

Unfortunately, there isn’t much that can be done about this problem. The lighter, easier to use umbrella stroller isn’t very appropriate for infants and you cannot make that switch too soon.  The best time is when your child can hold there own neck up and preferably be able to sit up on their own. This is because these two skills are necessary for sitting in an umbrella stroller.  In a larger stroller, the baby has more roam to lie down or recline making this less of a necessity. In addition, the umbrella style stroller doesn’t have the same safety features that are needed for a younger infant.

When the child can support themselves sitting up, you’ll be ready to get rid of the more cumbersome stroller for the lighter weight one. Luckily, these strollers have the same types as other strollers (such as: jogging, double, twin, etc.) and even some of the better brands make them (Chico and Evenflo are two examples). The best part about them of course, is their compact nature and easier traveling times. Hopefully, your baby can sit up soon so you can ditch that bulky stroller and upgrade to the umbrella version soon!
